The Summerside Chess Club is a place for like-minded individuals to get together and enjoy a game of chess!
Along the way, lessons will be taught, information will be learned, and the player's skill level at chess will be greatly improved!
The club is located at Trinity United Church (90 Spring Street, Summerside, PE).
To get to the club, you enter through the side doors and proceed downstairs. Proceeding left at the bottom of the stairs, you will see a hallway with another set of stairs (leading down) on your left, a hallway in front of you, and a hallway to your right. Turn right. The first door on your right is the Board Room (on left is a small kitchen).
There are no specific rules or requirements to join the club. All we ask, is that you be no younger 6 years old, that you're willing to accept help, that you're willing to learn, and that you're willing to play chess! If you can do those 3 things... you're good to go!
If you already know how to play chess... by all means, come on out and play! If you are a more experienced player who simply wishes to better your game... come on out and play! If you don't know how to play chess, but would like to learn... come on out and we'll teach you how to play! If you don't know how to play chess, and are not sure if you want to learn... come on out, watch us play, and then decide for yourself!
The Summerside Chess Club is registered through Chess'n Math.
Not yet.
Absolutely not.
The club is made up of members from various locations on the island. You do not, therefore, have to attend Trinity United Church to be a club member.
Tournaments are held year round (September - June) at Trinity United Church in Summerside (downstairs, in the Board Room)
- On the last Friday of every month, the Summerside club hosts a tournament.
- Unlike the weekly chess club that is open to anyone who wants to come and play chess, the tournaments are scholastic tournaments, and are only intended for children & youth... though they are still open tournaments (any child/youth can come and play).
- Medals & ribbons are always awarded.
- To help pay for the ribbons/medals awarded at the end of the tournament, there is $5 fee.
- Registration is from 6:00-6:30, games begin at 6:30
- Tournaments are registered with Chess'n Math
- Participants of the tournament will recieve a rating. This rating is displayed on the page next to the participants name, and will also be displayed on the Chess'n Math website.
- For more information, contact Alex Davies.
- For information on tournaments (played on PEI) other than the Summerside Chess Club tournaments, you can go to the PEI Youth Chess Association, or the Maritime Chess Centre.
